ABOUT CUE SHEETS

Cue sheets are forms required by the major music licensing firms (BMI, ASCAP, SESAC etc.) when music is used as a theme or background in a television program or motion picture to be broadcast. This requirement does not apply to non-broadcast programming, commercial spots or radio programming.

The cue sheet contains information about the music, the composer of the music, the publisher of the music, and the timings of each music cue in the production. BMI collects royaties from the broadcasters of such programming, and pays the composers and publishers accordingly.
